STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook football graduate student-athletes
Eric Black and
Damien Caffrey have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.
The CSC Academic All-District Football Team awards the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 GPA, have a minimum of one year completed at their current institution and had to have played in 50 percent of Stony Brook's games.
Black appeared in 10 games in his lone season on Long Island and recorded 19 tackles (11 solo, eight assists), seven TFLs, and five sacks. Black led the team in sacks and was second on the team in TFLs. The defensive lineman was tied for 10
th in the CAA in sacks this season. Black finished the season with four sacks over the Seawolves' final three games, which included a two-sack outing against Morgan State on November 5.
Caffrey appeared in all 11 games this season for the Seawolves. The tight end caught seven passes for 78 yards and was a key cog blocking for Stony Brook's ground game. Caffrey caught his first two passes as a Seawolf in the season opener against Rhode Island on September 1. The Long Island native hauled in his longest catch of the season which went for 35 yards against Maine on October 22.

About the CSC Academic All-District Team:
The nation's top student-athletes are honored for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Nominees needed a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.5-or-better and had to have played in 50 percent of the team's games. CSC Academic All-District® recipients advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December.
