WEST HARTFORD, CONN. – The Stony Brook University women's basketball team (23-3, 14-2 America East) dominated the floor at Chase Arena in West Hartford, Conn. The Seawolves defeated Hartford (2-23, 2-12 America East), 95-69, on Saturday.
Stony Brook recorded their best scoring game this season, finishing with 95 points against the Hawks. The 95 points marks a new season-high for the Seawolves (scored 91 points vs. Columbia on Nov. 24, 2020) and is the second-most points scored in a single-game during the Division I era in program history (scored 96 vs. Vermont on Feb. 24, 2007).
The Seawolves were paced by four student-athletes finishing in double figures en route to the 26-point victory over Hartford. Graduate forward
India Pagan led all scorers with a team-high 19 points. Senior guard
Earlette Scott followed closely behind with 18 points, while senior guard
Anastasia Warren and graduate forward
Leighah-Amori Wool each chipped in 15 points and 11 points, respectively.
Stony Brook did a majority of their damage in the third quarter where they outscored the Hawks, 29-18. The Seawolves did not slow down as they went on to lead by as much as 30 (93-63) in the fourth quarter, the product of a 12-0 scoring run with 2:16 left to play in the contest.
STATS AND NOTES
- The 95 points scored by Stony Brook are the most the Seawolves have scored against an opponent this season and the second-most in program history during the Division I era (scored 96 vs. Vermont on Feb. 24, 2007).
- Stony Brook shot 53.6 percent from the field, the second-highest field goal percentage this season since the team shot 57.1 percent against UMass Lowell on February 9.
- The 37 made field goals are a new season-high for the Seawolves (made 35 vs. Delaware St. on Nov. 11, 2021).
- Pagan finished the game with a team-high 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, pulled down six rebounds, and recorded a team-high two blocks.
- Scott poured in 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field in her 30 minutes of play.
- Warren knocked down 15 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field and knocked down a team-high three three-pointers.
- Wool scored 11 points and pulled down four rebounds in her 23 minutes of play.
- Senior forward Nairimar Vargas-Reyes came off the bench to grab a team-high 10 rebounds and score seven points.
- Stony Brook won the battle at the boards, 38-30, and is now 18-0 when they out-rebound their opponents.
- The Seawolves have now won their last seven games on the road and improve to 11-2 away from home.
