LOWELL, MASS. – The Stony Brook women's basketball team defeated UMass Lowell, 69-65, on Wednesday night in Lowell, Mass. The Seawolves improve to 20-2, 11-1 America East on the season and extended their season-long winning streak to 11 in a row.
With the victory over the River Hawks, Stony Brook becomes just one of nine teams in the nation with 20 or more wins on the season. The win marks the eighth time in program history that the Seawolves have recorded 20 or more wins in a season and the third time in the last four years that they have done so. The Seawolves were paced by four student-athletes scoring in double figures. Senior guard
Earlette Scott led the way with a game-high 18 points, she was followed closely by graduate forward
Leighah-Amori Wool who finished with 14 points. Freshman guard
Erin Turral knocked down a career-high 11 points and senior guard
Anastasia Warren chipped in 10 points.
Stony Brook took hold of the lead after Wool converted a pass from Scott for two points with 5:55 left to play in the first quarter. The Seawolves kept the momentum going for a majority of the contest as they did not trail until UMass Lowell went on a 7-0 run in the fourth to lead 62-60. Stony Brook rallied behind a 3-pointer from Scott to grab hold of the lead with 3:09 left to play and run away with the win.
STATS AND NOTES
- Scott recorded a game-high 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and went 2-of-4 from the three. The guard also converted 6-of-8 free-throws from the line.
- Wool raked in 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from the field and pulled down three rebounds.
- Turral knocked down a career-high 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting in her 12 minutes of play.
- Warren filled the stat sheet for the Seawolves with 10 points, four rebounds, in 35 minutes of play.
- India Pagan moved into 10th place on the all-time scorers list with 1,332 career-points, surpassing Joan Gandolf (1990-94).
- Stony Brook has now won its last five games on the road and improves to 9-2 away from home.
- The Seawolves improve to 6-0 when four players score in double figures.
