EVANSTON, Ill. — The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team fell behind early and was not able to rally, falling 16-12 at the Ryan Fieldhouse on Thursday night in a matchup between top six teams.
Ellie Masera had another standout day, recording a game-high five goals, while
Rayna Sabella added three.
The Wildcats scored the first three of the game before
Siobhan Rafferty scored the first of her two on the day. Back to back goals from Masera then cut the deficit to one before Northwestern was able to take control, scoring five in a row.
Stony Brook outscored the host Wildcats, 8-7, in the second half and was able to force eight turnovers but could not get closer than four in the final 30 minutes.
STATS AND NOTES
- Sabella's hat trick was her first since April 6, 2019 when she tallied three against Vermont. It is also the second of her career.
- Masera's five goals and six points are both new career bests.
- Siobhan Rafferty has now scored in six consecutive games with her two-goal performance.
- The Stony Brook defense forced 18 turnovers tonight, tied for the most by an opponent this season.
