STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Two innings gave the Stony Brook baseball team all it would need on Wednesday afternoon, as a four-run third and five-run eighth powered the Seawolves to a 9-1 victory over Iona at Joe Nathan Field.
In his first-career start,
Kyle Johnson would throw three scoreless to earn the win. Brendan Patterman,
Quinlan Montgomery and
Andrew Ledbetter would back it up, throwing six innings of 1-run ball to make sure the early advantage held up.
The Seawolves got on the board in the third, drawing four consecutive bases-loaded walks to head up 4-0.
Derek Yalon started the stretch and would come around on
Stanton Leuthner's free pass.
After an eighth-inning RBI double cut the lead to 4-1,
Evan Giordano responded with a two-run single with the bases loaded, plating two of the five in the inning.
As a whole, Stony Brook worked 11 walks on the day and had four different players with multiple runs batted in.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"This feels really good. We've been trying to figure out some things in these midweeks and we still are, but the guys had a great approach today. They saw it as the last game before conference and it was a great opportunity to get ready and I think we are as we head into our first weekend" - head coach
Matt Senk
