STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook University men's track and field team opened their spring season on their home track with the Stony Brook Snowflake Classic.
Stony Brook swept the 200 meter recording finishes through seventh place. Graduate
Matthew Cappock led the way with a first-place finish in the 200 meter. Senior
Josias Luctamar and sophomore
Aleks Zdravkovic followed behind earning second and third place finishes, respectively.
Justin Vazquez, Sebastian Ramos, Oluwadolapo Babalola
, and
Antonio Aguilar completed the top seven finishers.
Sophomore Gavin DaVanzo and freshman
Darnell Paul both secured first place finishes and new personal bests. DaVanzo earned first-place in the long jump while Paul took first in shot put.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Cappock led the way with a first-place finish in the 200 meter with his final time of 22.68. Luctamar and Zdravkovic followed behind earning second and third place finishes, respectively. Vazquez, Ramos, Babalola, and Aguilar completed the top seven finishers.
- Luctamar secured a second-place finish in the 200 meter with a final time of 11.62. Anthony Urbancik and Vazquez rounded out the podium with their final times of 11.73 and 11.76.
- Zdravkovic crossed the line in 48.53 to earn a first-place finish in the 400 meter. Nicolas Lavazoli and Cappock followed right behind earning second and third place finishes, respectively.
- Timothy Weber clocked in at 4:03.487 which was good for a second-place finish in the 1500 meter.
- Luke Coulter earned a first-place finish in the 3000 meter with his final time of 8:23.77. Eben Bragg finished right behind in second with a final time of 8:30.51.
- Miles Ryan secured a first-place finish in the 110 hurdles with a final time of 15.74. Babalola and Aidan Graziano rounded out the top three for the Seawolves.
- DaVanzo earned a first-place finish and a new personal best in the long jump with a mark of 6.84m. Alex Kanes finished behind in second with a mark of 6.78m.
- Paul recorded a first-place finish and a new personal best in the shot put with a final mark of 13.80m.

"It felt good to get the spring season started. The weather cooperated which allowed us to host a quality two-hour meet. It was encouraging to see that we had many fine early season performances across all the events we participated in," said head coach Andrew Ronan.
