STONY BROOK, N.Y. — A pair of runs in the sixth and seventh innings were the deciding factor, as the Stony Brook baseball team fell 9-6 in the 2022 home opener at Joe Nathan Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Matt Brown-Eiring had a strong day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, but the Seawolves were not able to hold onto a 6-5 lead at the midway point of the game.
Evan Fox had the big swing of the day, a grand slam in the fourth to knot the game up at five apiece.
Brett Paulsen, who had a 2-for-4 day at the plate, drove a RBI single to right in the following frame to score Brown-Eiring and give Stony Brook a 6-5 lead.
After a RBI groundout and wild pitch gave Sacred Heart the lead, the Pioneers would add two more in the seventh to finish the scoring.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"Credit to Sacred Heart for picking up the runners in scoring position they needed, which we did a very poor job of today, except for
Evan Fox's grand slam. That lack of timely hitting along with several poor pitching performances is a recipe for disaster and proved to be too much for us to overcome." - head coach
Matt Senk
