BOSTON – For the second week in a row Stony Brook softball freshman outfielder
Alyssa Costello has been named the America East Player and Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. Costello had another standout week for the Seawolves as she led them to a pair of wins.
Over the two wins, she hit .889 (8-9) with a home run, two doubles, and seven RBI. She recorded an .889 on-base percentage and 1.444 slugging percentage. She began the week by going 3-4 at the plate in the win over Hofstra with a home run, four RBI, and two runs scored. She singled in the second, homered in the fifth, and reached on a bunt single in the seventh.
On Saturday, she went 5-5 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored. She recorded three singles, two doubles, and added a career-high two stolen bases. It was her sixth multi-hit game. Costello's five hits were the most hits in a single-game by a player this season; she is currently on a nine-game hitting streak. The freshman became one of just five student-athletes in the nation to register a five-hit game this season.
For the season, she is hitting .556 (20-36) with three home runs and 13 RBI. She has recorded a .556 on-base percentage and .917 slugging percentage in 14 games (10 starts). The freshman has also showed off her speed by stealing five bases.
