STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Powered by five shutout innings to start the night from
Josh O'Neill and a two-triple day from
Evan Fox, the Stony Brook baseball team earned its sixth win in eight tries on Wednesday afternoon, knocking off Iona 10-0 at Joe Nathan Field.
O'Neill threw his second consecutive scoreless outing, tossing five without allowing a run while striking out a career-high six batters. This comes after his 4.2 scoreless at LIU on March 22.
Evan Fox started the scoring, and set the theme for the day, launching a triple into the right-center field gap and then racing home on a mishandled relay to give the Seawolves a 1-0 lead. He would also double in the fourth and triple again in the seventh, which would combine to bring in three more.
Matt Brown-Eiring continued his good stretch at the plate, lacing a two-run single down the left-field line in the sixth. He would score on a wild pitch in the eighth right before
Ryan Micheli launched a three-run blast to left, the first long ball of his career.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"We're trying to continue the way we performed this last weekend at Maine. We really started to play complete baseball. Pitchers were attacking with at least two-pitch mixes, the defense was playing well behind them and offensively, we were aggressive both at the plate and on the basepaths. The biggest thing I said to them after the game was, the key to us being a really good team the rest of the year is not worrying about who our opponent is, but making sure we keep up this style of play." - head coach
Matt Senk.
"I've just been trying to keep a clear mindset. Early on, I think I was just trying to do too much so now I just am focusing on being relaxed on the mound and not try to do too much with each pitch. I was able to speed some things up in the stretch, going to the plate and I've just mentally been staying clear and doing what is asked of me" - junior pitcher
Josh O'Neill.
"I'm just trying to be aggressive, hit balls hard that are in the zone and just stay within myself. I've been working hard in the gym but other than that, nothing really has changed. I'm just trying to keep same approach and hit line drives. Line drive with elevation turns into extra-base hits" - sophomore infielder
Evan Fox.
