VESTAL, N.Y. — Kyla Zapolski got it started and the rest of the No. 6 Stony Brook women's lacrosse team followed suit, as the Seawolves rolled past Binghamton 18-3
on Tuesday afternoon for their ninth consecutive victory. The win improved their record to 11-2 and a perfect 4-0 in the league.
Ellie Masera and
Kailyn Hart again led the way, as the Tewaaraton Watch List honorees combined for 12
of the tallies, including a stretch of eight in a row between the two that started at the end of the first quarter and spread into the the middle of the third.
Zapolski started the scoring, putting a pair past the Binghamton keeper in a two-minute stretch that ignited the Seawolves engine on the offensive end as the sixth-ranked team in the country rattled off the first eight tallies before its hosts could respond.
Siobhan Rafferty and
Emily Vengilio led the way with the defensive clampdown, as each had four caused turnovers of the 14 the Stony Brook defense recorded. It continued its reign as the country's best scoring defense, with its goals-against average now sitting at 6.38.
STATS AND NOTES
- Ellie's six goals match her career best, set at Hofstra on March 18, while Hart's half a dozen tallies set a new collegiate mark. She had two, five-goal games in her career coming into tonight. Both of them came during the 2022 campaign.
- The six goals also match her own and Siobhan Rafferty's tallies against Hofstra and Johns Hopkins, respectively, as the most by a Seawolves player this season.
- Masera increased her goalscoring streak to an even 10 games, while Hart currently sits two games back at eight straight with a tally. Masera's point streak extended to 13, while Kyla Zapolski now has a point in 12 consecutive contests.

Her five GBs are also tied for the most by a Stony Brook player this season, matching Masera's five against Northwestern.
- Vengilio's four caused trunovers are also a new collegiate high, doubling her previous best of two against Maryland on April 11, 2021.
- Lexie Correia recorded her first goal of 2022 and the first tally since February 15, 2020 in a matchup with Ohio State.
