BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Five runs in the ninth proved to be just one short, as the Stony Brook baseball team cut an 8-2 deficit to 8-7 but no closer in a midweek matinee at Veteran's Park in Bridgeport, Conn., on Tuesday afternoon.
Two RBI singles from
Derek Yalon and
Brett Paulsen, combined with an
Evan Giordano RBI groundout and two-run error off the bat of
Chris Leone combined for the scoring, but the Seawolves left the bases loaded in the top of the ninth.
Matt DeStefano started the scoring in the second, lacing a run-scoring base hit to center that plated Leone.
Sacred Heart went on a run after that, scoring the next seven runs across the following five frames.
STATS AND NOTES
- Both Fox and Giordano extended their on base streaks to a week, reaching in seven consecutive contests. Fox recorded his 12th multi-hit game of the season, two off the team lead.

- The Seawolves worked nine walks as a team, the second-highest mark of the season and the fifth time they've drawn nine or more in a single game.
- Quinlan Montgomery got the start, working a pair of scoreless frames before handing the ball off to the bullpen. He lowered his ERA to 4.67 on the year, its second-lowest point.
