BOSTON — Senior right-hander
Ben Fero continued his hot stretch on Friday night, throwing 6.2 scoreless innings to get the weekend started right in Binghamton.
He was recognized for his efforts on Monday afternoon, earning America East Pitcher of the Week honors. He struck out eight over that start, allowing just two hits and walking two others to lead the Seawolves to a 7-2 victory in the opener of the weekend set. That would allow the Seawolves to win the series before rain cut the finale short on Sunday.
The Trumbull, Conn., native recorded stretches of six and eight in a row retired en route to his fourth quality start of the year and second in as many outings. He has allowed two earned and struck out 12 over his last two starts, setting a new career-best with the eight strikeouts. It is three more than his previous best of five he had at NJIT on April 29 and against UAlbany on April 8.
He will lead Stony Brook into Senior Weekend as they welcome NJIT for a three-game set that begins on Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m., at Joe Nathan Field.
