STONY BROOK, N.Y. — A new era of Stony Brook Men's Soccer begins on August 25, when the Seawolves welcome LIU in their first game as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association. The squad's first game in its new conference will come against an old rival, as they welcome defending league champion Hofstra to LaValle Stadium on Sept. 3.
"We are very excited to announce our 2022 schedule," head coach Ryan Anatol said. "Our non-conference slate contains some great programs from some of the top conferences in the country. It is also a new era for Stony Brook soccer, entering the CAA this fall and we are looking forward to renewing some old rivalries and establishing new ones. We can't wait to get started."
Stony Brook's home opener is five days prior, as the Seawolves match up with Saint Peter's on August 29 at LaValle Stadium. That week contains two of the eight home games this season for Anatol's club.
A fourth straight New York opponent finishes off the opening stretch, with Columbia slated for a Labor Day contest in the Big Apple on September 5.
Elon will serve as the team's first road conference contest on Sept. 10, followed by a home non-conference matchup with NEC foe Merrimack on Sept. 13.
The latter game starts a four-game homestand for the Seawolves, its largest of the season as William & Mary (Sept. 17), Yale (Sept. 20) and Northeastern (Sept. 24) all travel to LaValle Stadium to round out the month of September.
October's schedule features five games away from home, starting with another new CAA member in Monmouth on Oct. 1. College of Charleston marks Stony Brook's second-to-last regular season home game, with the teams meeting on Oct. 8.
The longest road trip of the season awaits, with four straight away from home against Rutgers (Oct. 12), Delaware (Oct. 15), Temple (Oct. 18) and UNC Wilmington (Oct. 22) before rounding out the regular season with a home matchup against Drexel on Oct. 29.
Seven of the nine Colonial teams finished with double-figure points last season, with first and fifth separated by five points. Stony Brook is coming off its most home wins since 2011 and its winningest campaign since the 2018 season.
