STONY BROOK, N.Y. – 2022 Stony Brook Football Training Camp is here and the Seawolves took to the practice field for the first time this preseason on Tuesday morning.
A total of 118 student-athletes reported to camp this week and the Seawolves brought a ton of energy to the practice field as preparations began for the upcoming season. Tuesday's practice began at 9 a.m., at LaValle Stadium and consisted of 15 periods in helmets and shorts.
"The guys came out with an excitement from the first drill and we played fast and played hard. It'll be a lot of mistakes on film and we'll correct them. But it's a good group of people from that perspective," said head coach
Chuck Priore as he discussed the first day of practice.
Coach Priore enters his 17
th season leading the Seawolves and 40
th overall in college football. Priore's team returns a plethora of talent that earned valuable experience during the 2021 regular season and through spring ball.
"I think the great part is when we ended spring ball we were playing the same kids, plus a few kids that were injured that were part of our roster. So, we're a whole program with no new parts outside of the freshman class," said coach Priore on the familiarity of the roster.
Over the course of the summer, several Seawolves have garnered preseason honors. On Monday, graduate offensive lineman
Kyle Nunez was tabbed to the Stats Perform FCS All-America Second Team and redshirt senior running back
Ty Son Lawton was selected to the All-America Third Team.
On July 28, Lawton, Nunez, and redshirt sophomore linebacker
Tyler King received CAA Football preseason recognition. Lawton was named the CAA Football Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and was tabbed to the Preseason All-Conference Team. Both Nunez and King joined Lawton on the Preseason All-Conference Team.
Stony Brook is back on the field tomorrow for practice in helmets and shorts beginning at 9 a.m. The Seawolves will hold their first scrimmage of Training Camp on Thursday, August 11, at 10 a.m.
Stony Brook is set to kick-off the 2022 season on Thursday, September 1, at 7 p.m., against Rhode Island at LaValle Stadium.
Tickets are on sale now to be a part of the action on Long Island.
