STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook men's lacrosse head coach Anthony Gilardi has announced the addition of volunteer assistant coach Joe Licata to his staff. Licata, a Long Island native, comes to Stony Brook after having served in different coaching capacities at the club and high school levels.

"We are really excited to bring Joe on board this season and welcome him to our family. He is a young and energetic coach with great knowledge of the game," said coach Gilardi.

Licata has spent time on the club level with the Rebels Lacrosse Club as their director of training/recruiting. In that role, he was responsible for building relationships with families, players, and other lacrosse organizations. In addition, he would serve as a liaison between athletes and college programs, as well as initiate player development and on field IQ growth through innovative skills training.

His coaching career began at Walt Whitman High School in South Huntington where he served as the varsity lacrosse offensive coordinator from January 2019 through May 2021. During his time at South Huntington, he orchestrated the offensive plan of attack and was responsible for the growth of his student-athletes.

Before he began coaching, Licata was a member of Binghamton's men's lacrosse program. He was named a team captain for his senior year in 2019 and finished his career sixth all-time in points. Over the course of four seasons with the Bearcats, he tallied 100 points which included 63 goals and 37 assists. Licata is a 2015 graduate of Sachem East High School.
