STONY BROOK, N.Y. — A trifecta of clutch fourth-quarter goals led Stony Brook men's lacrosse to victory on Saturday afternoon as it took down visiting Marist 14-11 at LaValle Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves began play with a number of scoring opportunities, leading
Justin Bonacci to fire in a pair of goals to give Stony Brook an early 2-0 lead not even five minutes into play. The opening two goals from the Seawolves were met with two straight goals from the Red Foxes, tying the game at 2-2 with 7:24 remaining in the first quarter. Soon after evening up the score, Marist would notch another goal to take its first lead of the day. The visitors' lead lasted a little over two minutes as a goal from
Jack Cavalieri once again drew things even. That goal was followed up with another goal by Bonacci, giving him a first-quarter hat trick, and Stony Brook a 4-3 lead after one quarter.
In the second quarter, the Seawolves were able to pad their lead to four with the first three goals of the quarter. Following the trifecta of goals, the Red Foxes tallied a pair of goals in the closing moments of the quarter, as Stony Brook took a 7-5 lead into the locker room.
The Seeawolves reclaimed momentum in the opening minutes of the third quarter, scoring the first two goals to regain their four-goal advantage. Marist would notch one goal in the quarter, while Stony Brook closed the scoring in the third quarter with a goal from Cavalieri in the final seconds.
The Red Foxes scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter, tying the game at 10-10 with 9:15 remaining. The tie lasted less than a minute after a goal from
Caleb Yeung put the Seawolves back in front. The game was tied again immediately by Marist, evening the score at 11-11 with 7:35 remaining. Four minutes later, Stony Brook retook the lead again on an acrobatic goal from
Tanner Williams to beat the shot clock. That was followed right up with a goal off the faceoff from
Declan Mitchell, as Stony Brook led 13-11 with 3:23 left to play.
Collin Williamson would score one more goal for good measure, securing the 14-11 victory for the Seawolves.

- Bonacci tallied a game-best six points on three goals and three assists.
- Cavalieri set a new career high with four points, scoring three goals and assisting on another.
- Williamson scored two goals, his eighth consecutive multi-goal game.
- Williams, Yeung, and Kian McCoy all scored a goal and assisted on one in the win.
- Mitchell, Will Birney, and Carson Boyle rounded out the Stony Brook goal scorers with one goal each.
- Tommy Wilk picked up in net, stopping 13 shots in today's victory.
- The Red Foxes narrowly outshot the Seawolves 41-40.
- Stony Brook now improves to 14-7 all-time against Marist with today's win, snapping a two-game skid.
