RICHMOND, Va. – The Stony Brook football team fell to Richmond on Saturday afternoon at Robins Stadium. The Spiders topped the Seawolves, 51-7, as Stony Brook is now 4-2 in its last six games against CAA foe Richmond.

Daron Bryden zipped a pass over to graduate wide receiver
Khalil Newton who broke a tackle and dashed for 38 yards into the end zone.
Bryden's touchdown pass to Newton was the first of his career as he made his second career start for the Seawolves. The touchdown reception was Newton's first of the season and the fourth of his career (third with Stony Brook). The 38-yard touchdown was the longest scoring play for the Seawolves through three games this season.
STATS AND NOTES
- Graduate linebacker Reidgee Dimanche recorded a team-high 10 tackles (seven solo, three assists) and two TFLs. It marked the first time since September 25, 2021, that the linebacker finished a game with 10-plus tackles.
- Graduate defensive lineman Eric Black and redshirt sophomore defensive back Jordan Jackson both registered sacks in the game. For Black, it was his first sack as a Seawolf and brought his career total to 6.5 (had 5.5 sacks at Buffalo).
- Redshirt sophomore linebacker Tyler King finished the game with a season-high eight tackles (six solo, two assists).
- Bryden tossed his first career touchdown pass, a 38-yard strike to Newton. It was Bryden's second-longest completion of the season and the longest offensive scoring play for the Seawolves.
- Newton hauled in his first touchdown catch since October 16, 2021, against Delaware.

"What happened in the first quarter is what we anticipated being the game – it was going to be a hard battle. Some things didn't go our way, may be self-inflicted, both our tailbacks got hurt and I think that rocked our confidence a little bit. Anytime that you have to put that much pressure on a quarterback it's probably not going to be a good outcome," said head coach

The Seawolves return to LaValle Stadium on Saturday, October 1, to host William & Mary at 3:30 p.m. The meeting marks the first between the teams since the 2017 season when the Tribe defeated the Seawolves, 21-18, in Williamsburg, Va. Stony Brook is 1-3 all-time against William & Mary.
