Seawolves Topped by Towson on Sunday Afternoon

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook volleyball team (5-8, 0-4 CAA) was edged by Towson (14-0, 4-0 CAA) in straight sets on Sunday afternoon inside Pritchard Gymnasium. The Tigers recorded their second win in as many days as they picked up the win by the final set scores of 25-16, 25-16, 25-22.

Towson took control of the match in the first set as it pulled away from Stony Brook mid-way through the frame. The Seawolves fought back, but the Tigers' offensive attack proved to be the difference in the match.

Stony Brook was led by junior middle blocker Abby Campbell who recorded a game-high nine kills and hit .750. Junior outside hitter Leoni Kunz finished the match right behind Campbell in kills with eight on the afternoon.

STATS AND NOTES
  • Campbell's .750 hitting percentage was a season-high for the junior as she eclipsed her previous season-high hitting percentage of .588 which she tallied at St. Francis Brooklyn on September 21.
  • Kunz has recorded a hitting percentage over .350 in three consecutive games (.400 at St. Francis Brooklyn on Sep. 21, .438 vs. Towson on Sep. 24, and .389 on Sep. 25 vs. Towson).
  • Sophomore middle blocker Saige Bradley finished with seven kills on .294 hitting.
  • Junior setter Torri Henry dished out 28 assists and picked up five digs.
  • Junior libero Julia Patsos picked up 11 digs.
QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"We didn't compete defensively the way we needed to stay in the match today against Towson. I thought they came out with a little grit and we weren't able to get them out of system which made our defensive responsibilities harder to execute. We have an important road weekend coming up at William & Mary and will use the week to get better," said head coach Kristin Belzung.

NEXT UP
The Seawolves hit the road next weekend to take on conference foe William & Mary on Saturday, October 1, and Sunday, October 2. Both matches next weekend will begin at 1 p.m., and are set to broadcast on FloVolleyball.
