Turnbull Called Up to MLS' NYCFC Squad; Selected for Sunday Gameday Roster

NEW YORK — Stony Brook Men's Soccer alum Stephen Turnbull became the fourth Seawolves' alum to reach an MLS roster, as NYCFC has signed the Holtsville, N.Y., native to a Short-Term Contract, joining on loan from the NYCFC II squad he's made a name for himself on this season.

He has impressed on the squad this season, starting 19 out of 20 contests to log 1,723 minutes. On the scoresheet, he has provded three assists and five goals, the latter number sitting third amongst defenders in the league.

In his Seawolves' tenure, the defender made 55 appearances and 50 starts, totaling up 4,427 minutes for coach Ryan Anatol's club. He made 17 appearances and 12 starts his freshman year, helping earn the program the 2016 America East Regular Season title.

Turnbull will join the club this Sunday ahead of its away match at New England. Per MLS rules, the Short-Term Contract allows clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate and any one player can sign a maximum of four such contracts per season and appear in no more than two league matches.

The Seawolves return to action on Tuesday night, heading to Columbia for a 7 p.m. match.
