STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook softball head coach
Megan T. Bryant has announced the addition of two student-athletes –– pitcher Jordyn Fray and infielder Katherine Bubel –– to the 2023 class for the Seawolves.
"We are excited to welcome Jordyn and Katherine to our recruiting class and our Seawolves family," Bryant said. "Both are high achieving students and competitive athletes who value the opportunities that Stony Brook University has to offer. They both understand the work ethic and focus it takes to succeed in the classroom and on the playing field. We look forward to welcoming Jordyn and Katherine and their families to campus in the fall."
Jordyn Fray | Pitcher | Las Vegas, Nevada | Bishop Gorman HS
Fray is a native of Las Vegas and currently pitches at Bishop Gorman High School. As a junior in 2022, she went 11-0 in the pitcher's circle and racked up 73 strikeouts. She pitched to a 1.10 earned run average, while hitting .426 with 28 runs batted in and four home runs. She helped lead Gorman to a 26-0 record and back-to-back state championships. Fray earned First Team All-State honors in 2022. She plays her travel softball for the Las Vegas Blast. The daughter of Elizabeth and Jeremy Fray plans to study biology at Stony Brook.
"Fray is a tough competitor who can challenge hitters and brings a competitive edge to the circle," Bryant said.
Katherine Bubel | Infielder | Burlington, Wisconsin | Wilmot-Union HS
Bubel is a native of Burlington, Wisconsin and currently plays infield at Wilmot-Union High School. As a junior in 2022, she hit .320 with six home runs for the Wilmot-Union Panthers, as they totaled 14 victories on the season. Bubel plays her travel softball for GTS. The daughter of Sherry and Mark Bubel plans to study political science at Stony Brook.
"Bubel is a slick-fielding defender who will provide depth in the Seawolves' middle infield," Bryant said.
Fray and Bubel will join Daniella Sofia and Emma Scheitinger – announced this past November – on the Seawolves' 2024 roster following the completion of their high school careers.
The Stony Brook softball team will open the 2023 season at Florida Atlantic on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m.
