Seawolves Extend Winning Streak to Five in a Row & Move to 3-0 in CAA Play With 75-54 Win Over UNCW

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook women's basketball team (9-5, 3-0 CAA) returned to Island Federal Arena on Friday night in victorious fashion, as the squad defeated the UNCW Seahawks (3-10, 0-2 CAA), 75-54, to extend their winning streak to five games in a row. The Seawolves are now undefeated in their first three games of CAA play and have defeated their foes by an average of 17.3 points per game over the span.

Stony Brook's offense was paced by graduate guard Anastasia Warren as she finished with a team-high 23 points and three rebounds in the win. It was the sixth time this season that Warren finished a game with 20 or more points, and she is now second in the CAA in scoring with 16.6 points per game.

The Seawolves held the Seahawks scoreless for the first 3:42 of the game. Following a three-pointer by UNCW to give themselves a 5-2 lead, the Seawolves stormed back on a 19-8 run to take advantage of the Seahawks. Leading the run was junior guard Kelis Corley and Warren combining for 15 of the 19 points.

In the second quarter, the tenacious defense of the Seawolves held the team from North Carolina to just seven points on 23.1 percent shooting (3-of-13 from the field) to give them a 36-20 lead heading into the break. The Seawolves forced 26 turnovers in the game and scored 29 points off of those turnovers. Stony Brook swiped 12 steals as a team, its most in a game this season.

Stony Brook built on its lead in the second half, as the squad shot a highly efficient 48.0 percent (12-of-25) from the field and 40.0 percent from deep (4-of-10) to ultimately claim its fifth win in a row, 75-54.
