Women's Soccer Falls to UNCW in North Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. -- The Stony Brook women's soccer team allowed a goal less than a minute into the match tonight and would ultimately be the winning goal in the 1-0 defeat to UNCW at UNCW Soccer Stadium.

To begin the match, the Seahawks put the pressure on Seawolves defense by tallying the first and only goal 23 seconds into the match after Issy Bryant ripped a shot into the top-left of the goal to take the early 1-0 lead.

The squad responded with three shots, two on goal, over the next four minutes of play. Graceann Murphy tallied a shot that was saved in the top-center of the net in the 1st minute, followed by a shot that was off-target by Kerry Pearson. Gabrielle Cote blasted a shot at the bottom of the net in the 4th minute, but Hanna Wise kept the Seawolves off the score-sheet to keep the 1-0 lead into the break.

In the second half of play, the Seawolves continued to make their presence felt in the offensive end by tallying seven shots compared to the three by the Seahawks. Also, Nicolette Pasquarella kept UNCW off the board in the second half by securing three saves but the team from North Carolina kept Long Island's team at ease to secure the 1-0 victory.
