STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook University women's soccer head coach
Tobias Bischof has announced the signing of four student-athletes on Wednesday's National Signing Day to the program for the 2024 season.
"National Signing Day is always a special day for us as a program and for our incoming class," said Bischof. "We put a lot of work into our recruiting processes, at events and our ID Clinics led by Recruiting Coordinator and assistant coach
Shannon Grogan. The incoming class is very talented from a soccer aspect but they are even better people. We are excited about the future of our program and will get back on the recruiting trails to better our program even further."
Maya Corbett | Midfield | Oakville, Ontario
Corbett is a midfielder from Oakville, Ontario. She currently attends École Secondaire Catholic Sainte-Trinité and plays club for Rush Canada. The senior was the leading midfield scorer for Rush Canada and lead the league in assists. Also, she earned the overall Most Valuable Player for the First Touch Football Event that had the top 60 female players in Canada. During her time with the club, the captain has been invited to the Ontario Provincials tryouts and National Development Centre. She ends her career with four trips to the OFFSAA'S (Ontario Federation of School Athletics Associations).
Leah Rifas | Forward | Ardsley, N.Y.
Rifas is a forward from
Ardsley, N.Y. She currently attends
Ardsley High School, where the forward has started on the varsity soccer team for the past five seasons. During her time with
Ardsley, she ended as the leading goal scorer for the team and earned numerous honors such as All-League, All-Conference, and All-Section. With her
Quickstrike Patriots FC Soccer club, the future
Seawolf led the team to a 2022
USYS Regional Championship, 2023
USYS State Champion and 2023
USYS National Champion in Orlando, Florida, where they won all five games and outscored their opponents 13-1.
Eva Sprewell | Defense | Voorhees, N.J.
Sprewell is a defender from Voorhees, N.J. She currently attends Eastern Regional High School, where she's been a member of the varsity program over the past four seasons. Over the course of her high school soccer career, she was a two-time First Team All-Olympic Conference, All-South Jersey, and All-State recipient. Also, she led her team to the 2022 Group 4 SJ Champs and was a member of the 2023 Senior All Star Game. For her
SJEB club team, she was a 2023 GA Mid Athletic ID Session Selection.
Taylor Steinagel | Defense | Plymouth, Mich.
Steinagel is a defender from Plymouth, Mich. She currently attends Canton High School, where she plays varsity soccer, cross country, and track. The three-sport athlete led Canton to a District Championship in 2021 and earned Michigan Elite 8 Team and All-Conference honors for her performance during the season. Outside of soccer, Steinagel was a Michigan D1 State Qualifier in 2020 for cross country and earned numerous awards for track such as All-Conference and All-Region in 2022 and 2023. She currently holds the 4x1600m Relay school record. For her Michigan Hawks ECNL club team, the defender was a U16 Michigan State Cup Champion in 2020, U16
ECNL Champions League quarter-finalist in 2021, U17
ECNL Champions League Playoffs qualifier in 2022, and was a Championship Finalist in the U18/19 ECNL Nationals.
