Jared Frey Picks Up CAA Rookie of the Week Honors

12/11/2023 11:00:00 AM

RICHMOND, Va. - Jared Frey was named the CAA Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday morning. Frey averaged 15.0 points and 5.0 assists in a 2-0 week for Stony Brook, helping the Seawolves to victories over Stonehill and Bryant.

Frey opened up the week with 12 points, five rebounds and five assists in Stony Brook's 81-63 win over Stonehill on Wednesday. He connected on four three-pointers in the victory, matching a season-best mark from beyond the arc.

The Columbus, Ohio native followed that performance up with an 18-point, five-assist outing to help lead a come-from-behind win over Bryant on Saturday. Frey shot 5-for-9 from the floor, with all of his makes coming from beyond the three-point arc. He scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half, shooting 3-of-4 from three-point range and the charity stripe, to help the Seawolves erase a 12-point, first-half deficit and secure an 11-point victory at Island Federal Arena.

Though academically a sophomore, Frey played in just one game during his true freshman season before suffering a season-ending injury, thus allowing him to maintain "rookie" status for the 2023-24 season. Frey is Stony Brook's first weekly award honoree as a member of the CAA and is the Seawolves' first conference rookie of the week since Jules Moor earned America East Rookie of the Week distinction in December of 2018.
