Men's Basketball Downed on the Road at Michigan State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Stony Brook University men's basketball team fell to Michigan State, 99-55, on Thursday evening at the Breslin Center. Keenan Fitzmorris scored a team-high 10 points, adding six rebounds in his 23 minutes of action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Michigan State scored 20 of the first 22 points to begin the contest, opening up an 18-point lead just over six minutes into the evening. A triple from Andre Snoddy and a Chris Maidoh basket inside trimmed the deficit to 13 points, but the Spartans responded with a 13-0 run. The Seawolves were held without a point for nearly seven minutes and would eventually head into the half down 48-12.

After a rough first half, the Seawolves managed to shoot 43% from the floor in the second half. Michigan State however, played an even more efficient second half offensively after scoring at a 56 percent clip in the opening 20 minutes. The Spartans knocked down 12 triples and finished the contest with 33 assists on 38 made field goals, defeating Stony Brook 99-55.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Fitzmorris paced the offense with his 10 points, shooting 4-of-9 from the floor and knocking down his only three-point attempt. He has now scored in double figures in five straight games and seven of the last eight contests.
  • Maidoh pulled down a team-high seven rebounds, adding eight points offensively.
  • Dean Noll entered play leading the CAA in steals per game (2.0) and added four more to his season total.
  • Offensively, Stony Brook was limited to a season-low 29.1 field goal percentage.
  • The Seawolves had registered double-digit assists as a team in six straight contests entering tonight, but finished with just seven against the Spartans.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"Michigan State was the second best defense we have played in the last decade according to the analytics. They played like it and we were really poor on offense, particularly in the first half," head coach Geno Ford said post game. "They have a great team, but we didn't play well in many areas tonight. We'd like to wish everyone a happy holiday season and we look forward to playing at home on December 29th vs. Brown."
