EVANSTON, Ill. – The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team (4-1, 0-0 CAA) was not able to rally from behind as it fell to No. 3 Northwestern (6-1, 0-0 Big 10), 13-8, at the Ryan Fieldhouse on Friday night.

Ellie Masera led the Seawolves' offense recording five goals in the contest. Senior midfielders
Morgan Mitchell and
Charlotte Verhulst followed behind Masera tallying two goals and one, respectively.
Stony Brook struck first within the first 45 seconds of the game courtesy of
Morgan Mitchell. With 11:46 left to play in the first quarter, the Wildcats responded with a goal of their own.
The CAA Co-Player of the Week took matters into her own hands, winning the draw control and taking it all the way to the cage to give the Seawolves a 2-1 lead.
Northwestern answered back with four goals of its own to take the lead for the first time and enter the quarter break, 5-3. The Wildcats would not let up as they went on to outscore Stony Brook 8-5 throughout the three remaining quarters and secure the 13-8 victory.
STATS AND NOTES
- Masera led the Seawolves' offense recording five goals. The junior added nine draw controls and a caused turnover in the match.
- Morgan Mitchell found the back of the cage twice, marking her fifth consecutive two-goal outing.
- Verhulst recorded a goal on the night and registered six draw controls. Verhulst secured her fourth goal in five games.
- Graduate goalie Hailey Duchnowski stood tall in the cage recording a season high seven saves.
