Ashton Melaas Named CAA Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Stony Brook senior pitcher Ashton Melaas has been named the CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
 
Melaas went 1-1 and posted a 0.43 ERA in the circle for the Seawolves as she helped lead the squad to its first-ever CAA win in the 4-0 shutout over Drexel. On Wednesday, the Rockton, Ill., native went 8.2 innings, which marked her longest outing of her career. Melaas struk out four and only surrendered six hits and just one earned run.
 
On Sunday, the senior went the distance for the second time in the week, throwing a complete game shutout. The 7.0 inning shutout marked the second outing this season and third in her career that the senior has tossed a complete game shutout. Melaas recorded five punchouts and scattered five hits.
 
For the season, she holds a team-leading 3.69 ERA through seven starts. She has recorded a career-high 27 strikeouts over a career-high 60.2 innings pitched.
 
The Seawolves return home to University Field to host Seton Hall for a mid-week matchup on Wednesday, March 29. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
