Women’s Track & Field 4x100 & 4x400 Relay Teams Earn First-Place Finishes at Penn Relays; 4x400 Squad Sets New Program Record

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Stony Brook women's track and field team made history at the Penn Relays on April 27-29 at Franklin Field.
 
On the final day of the meet, the 4x100 meter relay squad comprised of Akajia Atkins, Dana Cerbone, Enyero Omokeni, and Jada Hodge secured a first-place finish to take home the title in the Eastern Divison with a final time of 47.07.


 
The 4x400 meter relay team made up of Aristea Franks, Omokeni, Cerbone, and Hodge continued the momentum with another first-place finish in the Eastern Division. In addition to the title, the squad also set a new program record with their final time of 3:43.79. The team surpassed the previous record of 3:44.69 set in 2019 by Riback, Stead, Pottinger, Chimezie.


 
DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore Grace Weigele earned a top 35 finish in the 5000 Meter Championship division with a final time of 16:43.09.
 
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Distance Medley Relay team comprised of Tara Hauff, Aristea Franks, Rachel Ruggiero, and Samantha Rutt earned a 10th place finish with a combined final time of 11:55.43.
  • The 4x100 relay team clocked in at 47.07 to win their heat and secure the fastest overall time in the preliminaries.
  • The 4x200 squad made up of Cerbone, Franks, Atkins, and Hodge crossed the line in 1:39.32 to earn a seventh-place overall finish in the Championship of America division.
  • The 4x400 team won their heat and secured a third-place overall finish in the preliminaries with a final time of 3:57.39.
DAY THREE HIGHLIGHTS
  • The 4x100 meter relay squad secured a first-place finish to take home the title in the Eastern Divison with a final time of 47.07.
  • The 4x400 meter relay team continued the momentum with another first-place finish in the Eastern Division. The squad also set a new program record with their final time of 3:43.79.
NEXT UP
The Seawolves return to the track May 5-6 when they travel to Williamsburg, Va. to compete in their first-ever CAA Championships.
