TOWSON, Md. – The Stony Brook women's lacrosse team dominated both ends of the field to defeat Towson, 19-4, on Saturday afternoon en route to the program's first-ever CAA Championship crown.
The Seawolves were paced by CAA Midfielder of the Year,
Ellie Masera, who tallied five goals in the contest. Senior attacker
Kailyn Hart followed behind Masera with four goals while senior attacker
Morgan Mitchell recorded a hat trick. Graduate attacker
Jolie Creo and senior midfielder
Charlotte Verhulst both added a pair of goals in the win.
The first quarter was all Stony Brook as the squad scored within the first two minutes courtesy of Masera who found the back of the cage off an assist from Hart. The Seawolves went on to score four more goals within a span of two minutes to take control of a 5-0 lead. The fourth goal by Hart marked her second of the day and her 200
th career point.
With 8:31 remaining in the first quarter, Verhulst added her first of back-to-back goals to keep the momentum rolling for the team. With three minutes left to play in the first, Towson's Milana Zizakovic scored the Tigers' first goal of the game. The Seawolves answered back in style with a step-down goal from Creo with one second remaining to end the first quarter.
Stony Brook would not let up as it went on to outscore Towson, 11-3, throughout the remaining three quarters to secure the 19-4 victory and ultimately the program's first CAA title.
After the contest, Masera was named Most Outstanding Player of the CAA Tournament. Hart,
Hailey Duchnowski, and
Clare Levy all joined Masera on the All-Tournament Team.
STATS AND NOTES
- Stony Brook's 19 goals broke the title game record of 18 by Towson in 2005. The 15-goal margin of victory was the largest in the final.
- Masera finished the day with five goals, three assists, eight points, and seve draw controls. She finised the tournament tallying nine goals, 14 points and 19 draw controls.
- Hart registered four goals and dished out an assist for a total of five points. The attacker notched her 200th career point in the contest.
- Mitchell recorded her sixth hat trick of the season and added two assists. She has now recorded at least one goal in her last 10 of 11 matches.
- Creo and Verhulst tallied a pair of goals each on the day. Creo also dished out three assists while Verhulst added one and also won two draw controls.
- Levy, Isabella Germani, and Alexandra Fusco all recorded a goal in the contest. The goals marked Levy's third of her career and Germani's second.
- Defenders Haley Dillon and Lindsay Rongo registered a pair of caused turnovers each.
- The Seawolves' defense held Towson to just four goals, the least amount the Tigers have scored all season and the least they have scored since 2019. (3 vs. No. 19 Johns Hopkins). It also marks the least amount of goals Towson has ever scored in a CAA Tournament game.

The Seawolves will await their fate in the upcoming NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship, as the team is looking ahead to its 10th consecutive tournament appearance. The selection show is currently slated for Sunday, May 7 at 9 p.m., and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
