NEWARK, Del. – After the Stony Brook baseball team (19-25, 10-13 CAA) jumped out to an early lead, the squad was unable to hold on as they were ultimately defeated by the Delaware Blue Hens (23-24, 12-11 CAA), 8-3.

Evan Giordano each led the Seawolves with a pair of knocks, including Giordano recording a triple in the first inning to give the Seawolves an early 1-0 lead.
The squad would go on to score two more runs in the opening inning. After the knock by Giordano, senior
Shane Paradine drove in the third baseman on a ground-ball and fellow senior
Derek Yalon capped the inning off with an RBI single to give Stony Brook the 3-0 advantage.
The Seawolves sent out senior
Josh O'Neill to make his sixth start of the season. The righter-hander was dealing by retiring the first six batters he faced. O'Neill worked out of trouble in the third inning by stranding the bases-loaded. The senior finished his outing by tossing 6.2 innings, allowing six runs (earned) and struck out four batters.
The Blue Hens would respond with a run of their own in the fourth and sixth to cut the deficit to one. Later in the game, Delaware scored four more runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth to take the 8-3 victory.
STATS AND NOTES
- Giordano recorded his second multi-hit game of the weekend and now has five RBI this series after going 2-for-5 with a triple, RBI, and tallied a run. He leads team and is third in the CAA with 49 RBI this season.
- Brown-Eiring is on a seven game hitting-steak and recorded a knock in nine of his last 10 games by going 2-for-4 with a run scored this evening.
- Yalon finished his afternoon with an RBI and hit. The senior has a career-high 25 RBI this season.
- First-year student Matthew Wright, junior Evan Fox, and senior Brett Paulsen all registered a hit.
- Junior Quinlan Montgomery finished the final 1.1 innings of the game out of the pen and did not allow an earned run (two unearned).
- Stony Brook is now 2-3 all-time against Delaware.
