BRONX, N.Y. -- In their final contest before CAA play, the Stony Brook women's soccer team rallied back from a two-goal deficit to earn a draw against Fordham University tonight at Jack Coffey Field.
The Rams opened up the scoring in the match by tallying back-to-back goals in nearly two minutes after scoring at the 18th minute and followed with a penalty-kick goal in the 20th minute to take the 2-0 advantage.
Stony Brook answered back in the 37th minute by cutting the lead to one goal after sophomore
Graceann Murphy tallied the first goal of her career by putting the pressure on the Rams keeper to force a turnover and the first goal of the night for the Seawolves.
Heading 2-1 into the break, Stony Brook came out firing after halftime.
Kerry Pearson ripped a shot that was saved at the 58th minute but made the most of her next opportunity in the 60th minute. The senior secured a cross into the box to knock her first goal of the season and to tie the game at 2-2.
Sophomore
Ava King entered the game in the second half in the net for the second consecutive game. The goalie had a spotless sheet again as she notched two saves and did not allow a goal to secure the 2-2 draw.
STATS AND NOTES
- Pearson tallied her first goal of the season and fourth goal of her career. It was her first goal since Sept. 19, 2021 vs Albany.
- Murphy tallied her first goal of her career.
- Nicolette Pasquarella totaled three saves in the first half and King tallied two saves in the second half.
- Stony Brook put nine shots on goal.
- The Seawolves are now 5-3-2 all-time against the Rams.
NEXT UP
The Seawolves will return to the pitch on Sunday at 6:31 p.m. for their first CAA battle of the season as the squad will host the newest member of the conference Campbell University. This will be the first-ever meeting between these two programs.
