Women's Soccer Earns 2-2 Draw Against Delaware at LaValle

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook women's soccer team held the lead for the majority of the match tonight but Delaware University tallied a goal in the 87th minute to ultimately force a draw Thursday night at LaValle Stadium.

The Seawolves move to 3-1-4 this season and remains unbeaten since their first match of the year against UMass on August 17th.

Early in the match, Delaware tallied the first shot on-goal in the 10th minute, but Nicolette Pasquarella made a highlight save to keep the Fightin' Blue Hens off the board.

Following the save by Pasquarella, Stony Brook wasted no time by putting the pressure on the Fightin' Blue Hens defense as the squad tallied the first goal in the next minute.

Sophomore Gabrielle Côté tallied her third goal of the season in the 11th minute  after Linn Beck launched a ball into the box from the corner that Côté blasted off her right foot to give Stony Brook an early 1-0 lead.

The Seawolves would attack again 20 minutes later into the match. This time it was Reilly Rich tallying her team-high fourth goal of the season on a corner-kick from Catharina von Drigalski that Rich headed into the back of the net to give Stony Brook an early 2-0 advantage. This was the 17th assist for von Drigalski in her career which is tied for sixth all-time in program history with Lisa Paladino (1986-89) and Jodi Klein (1994-97).

Delaware would tally a goal in the 41st minute to cut the deficit to one goal heading into the break.

In the second half, both teams would go back-and-forth without tallying a goal for the first 41 minutes. However, the Fightin' Blue Hens would score a goal in the 87th minute to tie the match and ultimately force the draw.

GAME NOTES
  • Rich tallied her team-high fourth goal of the season and 10th goal of her career.
  • Côté is now second on the team with three goals this season after scoring the seventh of her career.
  • Allie Palangi made her first career start for Stony Brook.
  • Pasquarella tallied two saves in net and has at-least one save in every match this season.
  • Stony Brook is now 3-2-1 all-time against Delaware.
QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"I thought we played well in the first half and were able to play our style of soccer. In the second half we struggled a little bit. It was unfortunate to give up the tying goal late," said head coach Tobias Bischof

NEXT UP
Stony Brook will return to the pitch on Sunday when they host Hofstra University in the cross-town battle at 2:00 p.m. The Seawolves will look to continue their recent success against the Pride after defeating the team from Hempstead 2-1 last season on Oct. 23.
