Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rich Scores Again; Women's Soccer Falls to Hofstra at LaValle

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Senior Reilly Rich tallied her team-high fifth goal of the season, including her third consecutive match, but the Stony Brook women's soccer team ultimately fell to Hofstra this afternoon 2-1 at LaValle Stadium.

The Seawolves were putting the pressure on the Pride defense early by tallying the first five shots of the game in the opening eight minutes. Luciana Setteducate rocketed two shots, while Gabby Daniels, Aneta Sovakova, and Rich each sent a shot.

However, Hofstra grabbed a 1-0 lead when Thorhildur Thorhallsdottir scored in the 15th minute, assisted by Dagny Run Petursdottir.

Stony Brook wasted no time answering back as Linn Beck and Reilly Rich connected to tie the match at 1-1 in the 17th minute. Rich made the most of a cross that Beck sent into the box with her right foot by launching it off the side of her head to even the match.

The scoring continued just a minute later but this time it was the Pride taking the lead in the 18th-minute after a goal by Gabriella Marte. Seawolves goalie Nicolette Pasquarella would make two more saves in the half to keep the one-goal deficit for Stony Book.

In the second half where the Seawolves tallied more shots, shots on goals, and corner kicks, the Pride held on by making five saves in the second frame to secure the 2-1 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Rich now leads the team with five goals this season. She has four goals in her last three matches and scored in her last three outings against Hofstra, Delaware, and Hampton. Rich is three goals away from tying her career-high (8).
  • Pasquarella had five saves this afternoon which tied a season-high (UMass on Aug. 17 and Bryant on Aug. 20)
  • Hofstra had 16 fouls compared to the five by Stony Brook.
  • Stony Brook had 19 shots and Hofstra notched 17.
  • The Seawolves are now 3-2-4 this season.
  • First lost by Stony Brook since Aug. 17 against UMass.
QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"Hofstra is a well coached team who has set the standard in the CAA for the last 10+ years. I thought we played well against them and pushed them to the limit. At the end of the day, little details decided the game. We had more shots, more shots on goal, more corner kicks and more ball possession but it wasn't enough to get the result we were looking for," said head coach Tobias Bischof.

NEXT UP
The squad will return to the pitch next Sunday when they head to West Long Branch, N.J., to take on Monmouth University. The Seawolves will look to avenge their 1-0 loss to the Hawks last season in their first-ever meeting on Oct. 2, 2022.
