STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Stony Brook men's lacrosse head coach Anthony Gilardi named senior midfielder Noah Armitage, graduate attackman Will Button, senior defenseman Sean Conk, graduate attackman Dylan Pallonetti and graduate defenseman Michael Sabella as the team's captains for the 2024 season.

"Every year we have waited to name captains until after the fall to allow for the leaders to emerge. This year it has been clear since the summer that we have a tremendous group of leaders that have already emerged," Gilardi said. "We are excited to announce that Will Button, Dylan Pallonetti, Noah Armitage, Michael Sabella and Sean Conk have been elected captains by their teammates. All five are great representatives of what it means to be a Seawolf lacrosse player and we look forward to seeing where this group can take us this year."

Pallonetti, who earned All-CAA First Team and Tewaaraton Award Watch List distinction in 2023, earned captain status for the third consecutive season. Pallonetti was a three-time CAA Offensive Player of the Week honoree in 2023 and led the team with 51 goals and 70 points. The Long Island native finished No. 10 in the nation in goals per game (3.19) and ranked 24th in points per game (4.38). Pallonetti's 51 goals in 2023 tied for the second-most in a single season in program history, while his 121 career goals is the sixth-best mark in the program's record books. A leader on and off the field, Pallonetti has also claimed USILA Scholar All-American status during his time on the Island.

Armitage, most recently selected by the San Diego Seals in the 2023 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft, also earned All-CAA First Team honors last season. Armitage's 45 points (26 goals, 19 assists) last season were tied for second most on the team and his assists per game total (1.19) was tied for seventh-best in the CAA. He was a force to be reckoned with a man-up advantage, leading the team with six individual man-up goals, good for the 24th most in the nation. Armitage also excelled in the classroom, earning USILA Scholar All-American honors last season.

Sabella played in and started all 16 games last season, helping the Seawolves reach the CAA final in their inaugural season in the league. Tasked with guarding the opponent's best offensive player, Sabella once again excelled in that role defensively. He finished second on the team last season with 18 caused turnovers and his 46 ground balls were fourth most on the squad. Sabella enjoyed a big day in last season's victory over Fairfield, matching a career-best with four ground balls and tallying the first goal of his collegiate career. Sabella shined academically as well a season ago, earning USILA Scholar All-American recognition.

Button broke out in 2023, playing in and starting all 16 contests for the Seawolves and posting career-best marks in virtually every statistical category. He kicked off his senior season by registering a hat trick on the road at Penn State. By season's end, Button amassed 18 goals and 10 assists, finishing sixth on the squad with 28 points. He tallied four of his career-high 28 points in the CAA Semifinal victory over Drexel, recording two goals and two assists to help slay the Dragons and push the Seawolves into the CAA final.

Conk appeared in all 16 games a season ago, making 11 starts. He helped anchor Stony Brook's defense, proving himself as a starter after appearing in a reserve role through the first six contests of 2023. Conk tallied multiple ground balls in four games last season, including a career-best three in a home win over Towson. He also played a pivotal role defensively in the CAA Semifinal against Drexel, causing a career-best three turnovers to help guide the Seawolves to the CAA Championship Game, where he caused a pair of turnovers and scooped up two ground balls.
