Andre Snoddy - Delaware

Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Narrowly Edged on the Road at Delaware

NEWARK, Del. - The Stony Brook University men's basketball team fell to Delaware, 71-68, on Thursday evening at the Bob Carpenter Center. The Seawolves saw three scorers finish in double figures, led by Tyler Stephenson-Moore's 15 points, while Andre Snoddy finished one rebound shy of a double-double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Neither side held a true competitive edge throughout most of the first half until the Seawolves opened up a double-digit lead by closing the half on a 16-2 run. The Blue Hens built a double-figure lead after an early 13-0 run, but Stony Brook erased that deficit by holding Delaware to just one field goal and two total points over the final seven-plus minutes of the half. Stephenson-Moore was responsible for six of Stony Brook's 16 points on its momentum-shifting run, including cashing in on a four-point play.

Stony Brook's lead grew as large as 12 points at the start of the second half, but slowly but surely, Delaware began to chip away. The Blue hens trimmed the deficit to nine points at the under-16 timeout, then whittled it to five points by the under-12 timeout of the second half. A basket by Dean Noll extended the Seawolves' lead back to three possessions as the contest approached the halfway point of the second stanza.

Delaware closed the gap to one-possession on a few occasions, but Stony Brook continued to hold off the Hens with some timely buckets. The Hens tied things up at 57-57, but the Seawolves provided another response, this time in the form of a Snoddy three-point play with less than four minutes to play.

After Delaware cashed in on a second-chance opportunity and evened the score again, they would finally take the lead back for the first time since the first half. But, Stepheson-Moore leveled the score at 62-62 with a turnaround jumper that fell just before the shot clock expired and with 2:30 to play.

Late, clutch baskets from Jyare Davis and Christian Ray would seal the deal for the Hens and send Stony Brook away with a tough loss on the road in Delaware.

STATS AND NOTES
  • Stepheson-Moore's 15 points were a team high. He added three rebounds and three assists as well.
  • Snoddy (13 points) and Aaron Clarke (11 points) also finished in double-figures for the Seawolves. Snoddy grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, finishing one board shy of the first double-double of his Stony Brook career.
  • The Seawolves connected on just 3-of-16 shots from beyond the arc.
  • Stony Brook entered play as the CAA leader in fouls per game, but committed a season-high 21 fouls. Delaware went to the line 22 times and converted on 19 of those attempts, both of which are season-best marks for a Stony Brook opponent.
  • The Hens turned 10 Stony Brook turnovers into 20 points.
  • The Seawolves won the rebounding battle, 37-30, and finished with an edge in second-chance points (17-11) and paint points (34-24).
  • Stony Brook falls to 1-3 all-time against Delaware, with the Hens picking up their third consecutive win in the series history and moving to 3-0 at home against the Seawolves.
QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"Tough loss. We played really hard. We were unable to stop [Jyare] Davis, which meant we were going to have to score every time we touched the ball, which we were unable to do," head coach Geno Ford said postgame. "The guys really battled and we're looking forward to some home games next week."
