Women’s Lacrosse to Feature Two National Semifinalists, 11 Home Games in 2024 Schedule

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Head coach Joe Spallina has announced Stony Brook's women's lacrosse schedule for the 2024 season, a competitive schedule which features two national semifinalists from a season ago and 11 games at LaValle Stadium, as announced on Thursday.

"This schedule sets up our team to accomplish all of its goals, with many NCAA tournament-caliber opponents including two teams that made the final four. Love the 2024 version of Stony Brook women's lacrosse and I am very excited to show our team to the lacrosse world," said Spallina.

A 17-game regular season will feature 11 home games, five true road games and a neutral-site contest. The 11 home games mark the most in the regular season under Spallina.

Stony Brook will play three teams which finished top 25 in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division I Poll to close the 2023 season, taking on No. 3 Syracuse, No. 4 Denver and No. 17 Johns Hopkins, along with three others which received votes in Drexel, Rutgers and Stanford.

A total of four teams on the Seawolves' schedule qualified for the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse Championship, and both Syracuse and Denver advanced to the national semifinals.

The 2024 schedule features eight CAA matchups beginning on March 16. Stony Brook will also play two games against the Big East, Big Ten and PAC-12 along with one game against the ACC, America East and Ivy League.

Stony Brook will play all of its games in February on home turf, beginning the season against Dartmouth (Feb. 18) and then facing Bryant (Feb. 20) and Arizona State (Feb. 23). All-time, Stony Brook is a combined 5-0 against its February opponents.

The Seawolves remain at home to begin March, opening the month against Villanova (March 2) before traveling to Syracuse (March 5). Stony Brook is the last team outside of the ACC to win at the JMA Wireless Dome, doing so on Feb. 10, 2020, in a 17-16 triumph.

The Seawolves will then face Johns Hopkins at The Crown event in Charlotte (March 9) before returning to LaValle Stadium to face Denver (March 11), their 10th all-time matchup against the Pioneers. Stony Brook closes the month with four conference games, at Towson (March 16), at home against Elon (March 22) and Campbell (March 24) and on the road at Monmouth (March 29).

Home matchups against Delaware (April 6) and Rutgers (April 9) await Stony Brook to begin April. The Seawolves have defeated Rutgers all three games at LaValle Stadium including twice in the NCAA Tournament (2021, 2022) against the Big Ten foe.

Stony Brook finishes its road schedule at William & Mary (April 11) and at Drexel (April 14). The Seawolves return home to close CAA play in the Battle of Long Island against Hofstra (April 21) and host Stanford to finish the regular season (April 25).

The 2024 CAA Women's Lacrosse Championship will be held at LaValle Stadium, with semifinal action set for Thursday, May 2 and Saturday, May 4. Stony Brook will look to defend its CAA title in the 2024 season.

Game times will be announced at a later date.
