STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Two members of Stony Brook's track and field program, Jaelyn Davis and Danella Dawkins, were selected to participate in the Women's Sports Foundation/NBC Sports Female Student-Athlete Mentoring Program.

The Women's Sports Foundation and National Partner NBC Sports kick-off the fifth year of their Student-Athlete Mentoring Program, an initiative designed to inspire and support women collegiate student-athletes in translating the valuable skills they have acquired on the field of play into successful careers.

"I'm beyond excited to have been selected. It's an opportunity offered to multiple athletes across the nation and to be one of the lucky few is truly an honor," Dawkins said. "This mentorship program plays directly into my future aspirations of sports law and I'm elated to work with and learn from the different experts at WSF and NBC Sports. I have no doubt that this experience will prove advantageous for my future endeavors."

This year, 20 student-athletes, who represent 12 colleges and universities across nine sports have been paired up with NBC Sports mentors who are from a diverse range of business functions including legal, human resources, marketing, digital, communications, operations, IT, finance, sales, and media production.

"I'm very thankful to be selected for this program," Davis said. "I think this is going to be a great opportunity to network and meet people that can be influential in my future. I'm so excited to see what the program entails!"

Commencing in December 2023 and running through May 2024, participants will engage around topics including career development, networking and personal branding, interpersonal communication, interviewing skills, and navigating the workplace. NBC Sports mentors will share their professional experience, insights and networks, while the Women's Sports Foundation will facilitate  the monthly sessions.

Throughout the program, participants will have the opportunity to work together to complete a group project focused on a topic of shared interest by the Women's Sports Foundation and NBC Sports. Each group will present their project at the culmination event at NBC Sports  Headquarters in Stamford, Conn.
