SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Stony Brook baseball team earned their first victory of the season in a split of an afternoon doubleheader with Purdue University in Sugar Land, Texas.
GAME 1: STONY BROOK 10, PURDUE 8
The Stony Brook Seawolves fought back from down 4-3 in the sixth inning to defeat the Purdue Boilermakers 10-8 Saturday.
Senior Ty Stout got the win out of the bullpen for Stony Brook. The right-hander went one inning, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on two hits. Junior JT Raab tossed 2.1 innings, surrendering one run on two hits. Junior Matt Miceli led the way offensively for the Seawolves, going 2-for-5 in the game with a triple and four runs batted in. Senior Matt Brown-Eiring provided a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a walk and three RBI. Senior Cam Santerre also contributed, going 2-for-4 for Stony Brook with a triple and an RBI.
The Seawolves got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fourth inning. Santerre came across to score the lone run of the inning for Stony Brook and get them on the board.
The Boilermakers then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the squad got back on the board in the sixth. Brown-Eiring's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Stony Brook scored twice, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Seawolves.
Stony Brook's lead had evaporated once the seventh inning came around and turned into a 4-3 Purdue advantage, when the Seawolves re-took control at 9-4. The Seawolves bats heated up in the inning, scoring six runs, including a three-run triple off the bat of Miceli.
The Boilermakers fought back, closing the gap to 9-7 until Stony Brook added some insurance in the ninth. Stony Brook scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Miceli, bringing the score to 10-7 in favor of Stony Brook. Purdue put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Seawolves still held on for the 10-8 win.

GAME 2: PURDUE 12, STONY BROOK 8
Brown-Eiring and Goforth each collected three RBIs, but the Stony Brook Seawolves fell to the Purdue Boilermakers 12-8 on Saturday in the second game of the doubleheader.
Junior Colin Rhein came out of the bullpen for Stony Brook and took the loss.
Goforth went 2-for-5 at the plate with a home run in addition to his three RBIs, while Brown-Eiring put together a 2-for-5 day with a double, supplementing his three-RBI performance for the Seawolves. Fox compiled a standout effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.
The Seawolves got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Stony Brook scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run homer from Goforth.
The Boilermakers then rallied to score four runs and take a 4-3 lead before the squad got back on the board in the fifth. Stony Brook brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Brown-Eiring's single, which brought the score to 5-4 in favor of the Seawolves.
Stony Brook's lead was taken away in the seventh inning and turned into a 12-5 Purdue advantage, and then the Seawolves would cut that deficit to 12-8. The squad added three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-RBI double from Brown-Eiring. The Seawolves were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
