Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Falls to No. 13 Penn State on Snowy Saturday

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Stony Brook University men's lacrosse team fell to No. 13 Penn State, 14-10, on Saturday afternoon at LaValle Stadium. Noah Armitage, Justin Bonacci and Nick Dupuis all finished with a team-high four points to pace the Seawolves offense.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves and Nittany Lions traded goals in a back-and-forth first quarter at LaValle Stadium, with Armitage, Dylan Pallonetti and Ryan Barker finding twine for Stony Brook. The Nittany Lions never trailed, but Stony Brook's persistence helped keep the Seawolves within striking distance over the first 15 minutes of action.

Penn State exploded for five goals in the second quarter, opening up a 9-3 advantage after holding Stony Brook without an answer until the final three minutes of the frame. The Seawolves would score the final two goals of the frame, narrowing their deficit to four goals heading into the halftime break.

Stony Brook stayed hot out of the break, scoring its third and fourth consecutive unanswered goals to pull back within two of the Nittany Lions. After the Nittany Lions extended their lead back to six goals, 13-7, Armitage and Bonacci tallied a goal apiece to trim the deficit heading into the final frame.

Each side scored just once in the fourth, despite the Seawolves letting 15 of its 38 shots fly in the frame. Penn State's defense held strong to pull out the victory over Stony Brook on Saturday.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"Disappointed… obviously that's another really good team we had and it's kind of the same script we've been going on," head coach Anthony Gilardi said. "When you play really good teams you have to play cleaner lacrosse. I'm excited with the potential this team has and I'm frustrated that it's not in the moments when we need it."

UP NEXT
Stony Brook returns to action next Saturday, February 17 at Air Force. The Seawolves and Falcons are scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. (EST) start, with the contest streaming live on ESPN+ from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado.
