STONY BROOK, N.Y. – No. 11 Stony Brook women's lacrosse pulled away in the second half and wrapped up President's Week with three wins in six days with a 20-9 victory over Arizona State at LaValle Stadium on Friday.

The Seawolves improved to 3-0 with the victory and sent Arizona State to their first defeat at 3-1.

On offense, senior
Ellie Masera finished with six goals and five assists for a career-high 11 points. Graduate student
Alex Finn finished with four goals and three assists for seven points while classmate
Charlotte Verhulst finished with three goals and an assist for a four-point afternoon. Stony Brook also got two goals each from graduate student
Morgan Mitchell and freshman
Isabella Caporuscio and one from graduate student
Clare Levy.

The Seawolves caused nine turnovers defensively and held Arizona State to 15 shots. Graduate student
McKenzie Mitchell caused a career-high four turnovers and added two ground balls. Caporuscio led Stony Brook with three ground balls and added a caused turnover. Junior
Avery Hines caused two turnovers and picked up two ground balls on the day.

Stony Brook out-drew Arizona State 19-12 on the day, led by Masera with 10 draw controls and Levy with seven.

For Arizona State, Mina Scott struck for four goals on five shots while Berit Brookfield scored a pair. Katie Vahle made nine saves in goal for the Sun Devils.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Stony Brook took a pair of leads in the first with goals from Masera and Finn. With the game tied at two, Stony Brook finished the quarter on a 3-0 run over the final 4:02 to take a 5-2 lead.
- The Seawolves put six shots on goal in the first compared to two for Arizona State.
- Stony Brook twice led by four in the second quarter, before ASU went on a 3-0 run to cut things to 7-6 with 1:02 left in the half.
- Vahle made six saves in the second quarter to help spur the run.
- The Seawolves came out of the gate strong in the second half, scoring eight of the first nine goals to grab a 15-7 lead late in the third.
- Stony Brook out-shot Arizona State 10-3 in the third and had a .800 shooting percentage.
- Up 16-9 in the fourth, Stony Brook scored the final four goals in the last 11:24 from four different sticks.
NOTES, TRENDS AND RECORDS
- The 55 goals are the most across the first three games of a season in program history.
- Masera's 11 points are tied for fourth-most in a game in program history. She marks the first instance of 11 or more points for a Seawolf since Taryn Ohlmiller had 12 on May 16, 2021.
- With the win, Stony Brook has now won five straight games against PAC-12 opponents, a streak dating back to 2019. Stony Brook also has a win over a power conference opponent in every season since 2014.
- The Seawolves also extended their nation-best home winning streak to 37 games.
- Verhulst recorded her third career hat trick and first since May 4, 2023.
- Stony Brook shot 13-for-19 (68.4%) in the second half.
