Football Inks Eight for 2024 National Signing Day Regular Period

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook football has signed eight new players to its class of 2024, as these incoming student-athletes signed their National Letters of Intent on the first day of the regular signing period on Wednesday.
 
The student-athletes will enroll as freshmen for the 2024-25 academic year and will be eligible for the 2024 season. Wednesday's signees make 10 total incoming freshmen for the signing class of 2024, adding to two early period signees in December.
 
"All of these young men have the traits we need in our student-athletes," said head coach Billy Cosh. "They're high-character, competitive, academically strong and all have great football instincts. I want to welcome these young men and their families to the Stony Brook football family and credit our staff in evaluating and recruiting them. This group had a lot of high-level offers, and the relationships we built the last month was critical in getting these young men to Stony Brook."
 
Wednesday's class features three student-athletes from Pennsylvania, two from New Jersey and one each from Georgia, Long Island and South Carolina.

Jayson Allen | S | 6'1" | 185 | Lawrenceville, Ga. | Central Gwinnett
In his senior season, he recorded 57 tackles (28 solo), 12 TFLs, three sacks and blocked four punts along with a field goal. Allen recorded four interceptions across his high school career at Central Gwinnett.
 
Aubrey Carter | DL | 6'2" | 264 | Harrisburg, Pa. | Susquehanna Township
Carter was a two-year team captain at Susquehanna Township where he earned All-Conference Freshman honors and Honorable Mention All-Conference twice. He eclipsed 100 total tackles for his high school career, totaling 11 TFLs and seven sacks.
 
Sam Cooper | S | 5'11" | 187 | Levittown, Pa. | Conwell Egan Catholic
An All-State safety and candidate for Mr. PA Football, Cooper made 65 solo tackles and recorded four interceptions in his high school career. He also totaled over 1,800 all-purpose yards and scored 15 touchdowns in high school. In addition to his statewide honors, Cooper was a First Team All-Area and All-Catholic pick.
 
Luca Gemma | LB | 6'2" | 203 | Ramsey, N.J. | Ramsey
Gemma was named First Team All-League in his sophomore, junior and senior high school seasons. Across his first three seasons in high school, Ramsey compiled an impressive 24-3 record. He is a three-star recruit according to 247Sports.
 
Justin Kaye | OL | 6'7" | 310 | Toms River, N.J. | Toms River North
Kaye was a captain of the both the football and track & field teams in his career. Toms River North High School won the 2022 and 2023 Group 5 NJSIAA State Championship. His senior year accolades include First Team All-American Division, First Team All-Ocean County, First Team All-Shore Conference, First Team All-Group V and Second Team All-State. He was also Toms River North's class president in his junior and senior years.
 
Cooper Lauersen | OL | 6'5" | 280 | Levittown, Pa. | Conwell Egan Catholic
This past season, Lauersen earned Second Team All-Area and First Team All-Catholic honors as Conwell Egan finished the season ranked No. 8 in the state for its division. Conwell Egan won back-to-back district championships in Lauersen's junior and senior seasons.
 
Malachi Marshall | QB | 6'2" | 170 | Rock Hill, S.C. | South Pointe
In his final two seasons at quarterback, Marshall amassed over 4,100 passing yards and 36 total touchdowns. He was also a team captain as a senior. In his sophomore season in 2021, South Pointe won the Class AAAA SCHSL State Championship. Marshall's cousin, DiJuan Harris, played basketball at UNC Charlotte from 2007-10. South Pointe has produced past NFL players in Jadeveon Clowney and Stephon Gilmore.
 
Sebastian Regis | DL | 6'1" | 260 | East Islip, N.Y. | East Islip
Staying on Long Island, Regis was named the New York State Player of the Year this past season. He is a two-time First-Team All-State selection and has won the Hansen Award, Burnett Award and Zellner Award, with all three honoring top players in Suffolk County. He was also a force on the wrestling mat, winning the 2023 State Championship and compiled a 51-1 record in the 2022-23 season. Regis was a team captain twice for football and a three-time captain for the wrestling team.
 
Stony Brook's 2024 season will begin on Aug. 31 when the Seawolves travel to West Virginia to take on Marshall.
