STONY BROOK, N.Y. – In a high-scoring affair, Stony Brook baseball fell in a 15-8 scoreline against Central Connecticut State, as the Blue Devils rallied from an early deficit and pulled away late at Joe Nathan Field on Tuesday.

Stony Brook dropped to 9-10 overall on the year while CCSU improved to 5-6.

For the Seawolves, freshman
Erik Paulsen collected three hits and an RBI along with a run scored. Redshirt junior
Robert Taylor had a pair of base knocks, two RBIs and two runs scored. Six others collected one hit on the afternoon. The Seawolves totaled five extra-base hits, with two doubles from Paulsen and other from sophomore
Johnny Pilla, a triple from graduate student
Cam Santerre and a home run from Taylor.

On the mound, junior
Colton Book (L, 1-2) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits and striking out seven without a walk. Senior
Quinlan Montgomery allowed three runs (none earned) in 0.2 innings, freshman
Ty Panariello allowed two earned runs in 1.0 innings, sophomore
Jerek Hobb allowed three (none earned) in 1.0 innings and senior Brendan Patterman pitched 1.1 innings, allowing an unearned run.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CCSU got a triple, then a double with two outs to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.
- Taylor hit a one-out, two-run home run to left to give SBU a 2-1 in the bottom of the inning.
- Later in that inning, Santerre tripled home a run and was sent home by a Paulsen RBI double to give the Seawolves a 4-1 advantage through two.
- A two-run single cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the third.
- The Blue Devils re-took the lead in the fourth with two singles and a three-run home run to left to grab a 6-4 lead.
- A leadoff double turned into a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth to make things 6-5.
- A single and an error brought in a run to cushion CCSU's lead to 7-5 in the sixth. The next batter homered to right center to extend the lead to 9-5.
- An error and a Johnny Pilla double set up two RBI groundouts in the bottom of the sixth. Later in the inning, two singles put Matthew Wright on third, who would then score on a wild pitch for a 9-8 scoreline at the end of six.
- With runners at second and third, CCSU produced an RBI groundout followed by a two-out RBI single to push open an 11-8 advantage.
- CCSU put runners at first and second, then plated a runner on a throwing error and two more on an RBI single, widening the lead to 14-8 in the middle of the eighth.
- A stolen base and throwing error accounted for the Blue Devils' final run in the ninth.Â
STATS AND NOTES
- Paulsen collected three hits for the fourth time this season.
- Taylor hit his first home run at the Division I level on Tuesday.
- Seven different Seawolves scored at least one run on Tuesday and six drove home at least one RBI.
- Both teams committed five errors in the game.
