Stony Brook Downs Towson at Joe Nathan Field

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook Seawolves took a 3-2 lead in the third inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 4-2 victory over the Towson Tigers on Friday at Joe Nathan Field.

Eddie Smink (5-4) started on the mound and picked up the win for Stony Brook (18-17, 6-6). The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing three walks and striking out five. Erik Paulsen also made an impact on the mound for the Seawolves, starting the ballgame and throwing three shutout innings while allowing one hit, with one walk and two strikeouts.

On the offensive side, Johnny Pilla, Matt Brown-Eiring, and Evan Fox all tallied an RBI for the Seawolves. Also, Ryan Micheli tallied two hits and Robert Taylor had a knock as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After Towson tallied the first two runs in the first inning and Smink came back with a 1-2-3 inning in the second and third frames, the Seawolves attacked the Towson pitching in the third. Following back-to-back walks from Cam Santerre and Evan Fox, Stony Brook made the most of an error by Towson on a bunt from Miceli to take the early 1-0 lead. Brown-Eiring brought home Fox in the next at-bat with a ground out and a few batters later, Pilla brought in Miceli on an RBI single.

The Seawolves and Smink then held the Tigers scoreless before expanding their lead in the sixth inning. Stony Brook scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Fox, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the home team. The score remained 4-2 for the rest of the game, as E. Paulsen closed the door for Stony Brook to hold on to the win.
