Avery Hines Named IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week

4/9/2024 2:30:00 PM

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Stony Brook junior defender Avery Hines has been named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon. The national recognition comes after the junior was tabbed the CAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Hines helped anchor the defense as she caused a career-high six turnovers and scooped up three ground balls in the win. Her six caused turnovers are the most in a game by a Stony Brook player since Haley Dillon forced six turnovers vs. Vermont on March 26, 2022. The six caused turnovers were the second-most in a game by a Stony Brook player in program history.

Hines' efforts contributed significantly to Stony Brook's success, as the Seawolves currently sit as the No. 4 scoring defense in the nation, allowing just 7.83 goals per game.

Stony Brook is back in action at LaValle Stadium on tonight, when it hosts Rutgers at 6:31 p.m. The Seawolves are 4-1 all-time against the Scarlet Knights and defeated them, 11-7, the last time they played at LaValle Stadium on May 15, 2022, in the NCAA Tournament. Get your tickets now to be a part of the action.
