BROOKLINE, Mass. -- Brett Paulsen totaled three hits and Erik Paulsen made his first career start, but the Stony Brook Seawolves fell to the Northeastern Huskies 12-3 on Saturday in their regular season finale.
E. Paulsen got the ball to start for Stony Brook (24-28, 12-15) and took the loss to move his record to 2-1 on the year. Ty Stout was a bright spot for the Seawolves, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits. Ty Saunders also made an appearance out of the pen and allowed three runs over 1.2 innings, while Nicholas Rizzo surrendered four runs (three earned) in his 2.2 innings of work.
In addition to his three hits, B. Paulsen had a double, a walk and an RBI to lead the Seawolves. Evan Fox compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Ryan Micheli also helped out for Stony Brook, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seawolves got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. Stony Brook scored twice, with one run coming across on B. Paulsen's single and another coming from an RBI-knock by Matt Brown-Eiring to give the squad an early 2-0 lead.
Stony Brook then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the second inning after the Huskies cut it to 2-1. Micheli came across to score the lone run of the inning for Stony Brook, which brought the score to 3-1 in favor of the Seawolves.
However, Northeastern would bring across a run in the second and three more in the third to take a 5-3 advantage. The Huskies went on to score seven more runs over the next four innings to go up 12-3 in the seventh and ultimately securing the victory.
STATS AND NOTES
- B. Paulsen led the Seawolves, compiling three hits in the ballgame with a double and RBI. It was his his 14th multi-hit game of the year and fourth game this season reaching three hits.
- Brown-Eiring had a hit in his final eight games this year and reached base in the final 12 games of the season after he went 1-for-4 with an RBI. The senior hit a career-high .313 this season and had new career-highs in hits (62) and on-base percentage (.378).
- E. Paulsen made his first career start. The left-hander allowed five runs over 2.1 innings. He also went 1-for-4 at the plate with a double.
- Saunders, N. Rizzo, and Stout all made appearances out of the bullpen this afternoon.
- Ryan Micheli and Johnny Pilla both recorded a hit in the defeat.
- Stony Brook hit .308 (4-13) with two outs this afternoon.
- The Seawolves allowed a season-high 10 stolen bags.
