SPARKS, Md. – With only a month until the 2025 season begins, the Stony Brook women's lacrosse team earned their first national ranking of the year, taking the No. 14 spot in the USA Lacrosse Division I Women's Preseason Top 20 on Friday afternoon.
The Seawolves closed out the 2024 season finishing 14
th in final poll for USA Lacrosse and 13th in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division I rankings.
Stony Brook ended their season 18-3 overall and made its 11th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship, reaching the Second Round and falling to No. 3 Syracuse. The Seawolves picked up wins last season over four teams that were ranked or receiving votes by USA Lacrosse on Friday, defeating Syracuse (No. 11), Colorado (RV), Drexel, (RV), and Stanford (RV) during their 2024 campaign.
This season, Stony Brook will be facing off against five teams that are ranked or receiving votes in the Preseason Top 20: Johns Hopkins (No. 7), Denver (No.16), Princeton (No. 17), Colorado (RV), and Drexel (RV).
Last year's CAA champions were the only ranked CAA team in Friday's poll, while Drexel earned consideration. The defending national champions, Boston College, took the top spot in the rankings.
