STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Despite coming out to a 1-0 lead to start the day, Stony Brook could not hang on for the win as they were bested 3-1 (26-24, 24-26, 18-25, 15-25) by Campbell on Saturday at home at Pritchard Gymnasium.
The Seawolves were led by a double-double from Kali Moore, who registered 16 kills and 14 digs on the day. Quinn Anderson also added eight kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Madison Cigna chipped in for with 19 digs to go with two blocks from Mercedes Motton.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Seawolves came out on top of a close first set, winning 26-24. Thanks to 16 kills from the offense, half of which came from Moore, Stony Brook was able to come back from the brink as the Camels initially got within one point of victory at 24-20. A 6-0 Seawolves run featruing four kills from Moore was just enough to give Stony Brook the victory.
SET 2 | The second set was just as close as the first, only this time it was Campbell who held the Seawolves at set point and went on to win 26-24. The set was tied 13 times as neither team went on a run longer than three points. Kills from Moore and Motton got Stony Brook within a point of going up 2-0 on the day, but in the end three unanswered from the Camels were enough to knot up the match.
SET 3 | The Seawolves fell in a tough third set 25-18 as Campbell built the largest lead by either team today. After coming out with an early 4-3 lead, Stony Brook would never again lead in the set. Four kills in the second half from Liv Hertzog tied things up at 16-16, but the team would get no closer as the Camels managed to close out the set.
SET 4 | Stony Brook was unable to force another fifth set as the Seawolves ended up falling 25-15 in the finale set. Once again the team opened the set with a 4-3 lead, but just like in the fourth they would not hold a lead for the remainder of the set. A 4-0 run briefly cut the lead to two at 16-14, only for the Camels to respond with a 7-0 run to put the match away.
