Seawolves Win Senior Day Thriller, Defeat Bryant in Final Minute

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook football team celebrated its 2025 Senior Day and regular season finale with a dramatic 35-28 victory over the Bryant Bulldogs this afternoon at LaValle Stadium.

QB Quinn Boyd was stellar all afternoon, as the rookie threw for 298 yards on 33-of-47 attempts with two touchdowns, including the game-winning pass to Cole Bunicci with 51 seconds remaining. He also rushed 13 times for 45 yards and a touchdown.

Dez Williams led the Seawolves' air attack, bringing in a team-best 10 receptions for 117 yards. Bunicci and Jayce Freeman each scored a touchdown and surpassed 45 receiving yards, while Marqeese Dietz added six receptions for 25 yards. In total, nine different Stony Brook receivers recorded a catch in the victory.

Making his first start at running back, Dylan Harris proved to be a threat in both the run and pass game, totaling 64 yards and a touchdown. The redshirt sophomore finished with 39 rushing yards on 15 carries and added four receptions for 25 yards.

The Stony Brook defense was paced by Aidan Kaler, who posted a team-best 11 tackles, including one for loss, in his final career game. Jojo Garcia recorded his first multi-interception game of the season. Fellow senior Chayce Chalmers collected eight tackles, while Miles McGoy and Anthony Ferrelli each tallied six. Bryson Parker also snagged his second interception of the season.

Michael Mannino connected on two of his three field goal attempts, including a 47-yarder—the second-longest in program history. The rookie also delivered a short kick-off that McGoy recovered, setting up a touchdown pass from Boyd to Freeman. In his final game, punter Clayton Taylor totaled three punts for 92 yards, including one that pinned Bryant inside the five-yard line.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bryant received the ball to start the game. On the first play, Dyshier Clary energized the crowd with a tackle for loss. After a Bryant first down, Parker intercepted a pass at the Bulldogs' 22-yard line to give Stony Brook early momentum.
  • On Stony Brook's first possession, Boyd connected with Bunicci for 12 yards and Lamarre for 11 before the Seawolves were forced to punt with 9:56 left in the first quarter.
  • Beginning their next drive at the three-yard line after Taylor's punt, Bryant marched 97 yards on 11 plays, highlighted by a 48-yard reception, and finished with a one-yard touchdown run to take a 7-0 lead with 3:45 remaining.
  • Freeman flipped the field with a 44-yard return to the Bryant 35. On fourth-and-one, Ikaika Ragsdale kept the drive alive with a four-yard rush. A few plays later, Williams drew a pass interference call that placed the ball at the three-yard line, and Boyd capped the nine-play, 35-yard drive with a three-yard rushing touchdown to tie the game at 7-7 with 0:15 left in the quarter.
  • Garcia intercepted Bryant on the next drive at the Bulldogs' 38-yard line with 14:23 left in the half.
  • Stony Brook's next drive saw Harris pick up six yards, Williams add seven for a first down, and Dietz haul in a 12-yard catch to move into Bryant territory. Williams then made a highlight 15-yard sideline grab, and Freeman followed with a 16-yard reception into the red zone. Harris finished the drive with a one-yard touchdown run to give Stony Brook a 14-7 lead.
  • On the ensuing kick-off, McGoy recovered a Bryant fumble at the 31. Three plays later, Boyd hit Freeman for a 23-yard touchdown to extend the lead to 21-7.
  • With 9:48 left in the half, Bryant responded with an eight-play, 64-yard drive, scoring on a one-yard rush to cut the lead to 21-14.
  • After Freeman's 30-yard return gave Stony Brook the ball at their own 41, the Bulldogs forced a three-and-out. Bryant then tied the game at 21-21 following a 39-yard pass and a three-yard rushing touchdown.
  • Both teams exchanged punts before Stony Brook missed a 48-yard field goal to end the half, keeping the score tied.
  • Stony Brook opened the second half at its 35-yard line and used a penalty and three short passes to move into Bryant territory. Harris converted a third-and-one to keep the drive alive. The Seawolves settled for a 22-yard Mannino field goal after a 13-play, 60-yard drive that lasted 5:17, taking a 24-21 lead.
  • On the ensuing kickoff, Andrew Riggs made a key tackle, pinning Bryant inside their 15. AK Kamara and Ferrelli stuffed consecutive runs to force third-and-six, and the defense forced a punt with 8:18 left in the quarter.
  • Boyd drove the Seawolves into Bryant territory with a 13-yard rush, a seven-yard reception by Harris, and a 12-yard catch by Bunicci. But a fourth-and-four attempt inside the five-yard line was stopped, turning the ball over on downs.
  • A 46-yard Bryant run flipped field position, but Milano and Faulk delivered a tackle for loss on fourth-and-four at the Stony Brook 32 to stop the drive with 0:59 left in the third.
  • Boyd opened the next drive with a 17-yard pass to Williams and a 10-yard completion to Freeman. Another first down to Flood-Brown set up Mannino's 47-yard field goal, extending the lead to 27-21.
  • Bryant answered with a long, deliberate drive. A fourth-and-two conversion and a one-handed 34-yard sideline catch put the ball inside the five. The Bulldogs finished with a one-yard touchdown to take a 28-27 lead after a 15-play, 72-yard drive.
  • With 3:59 remaining and needing a touchdown, the Seawolves marched 75 yards on 13 plays. Boyd found Bunicci in the endzone for the six-yard game-winning reception with 0:55 remaining.
