LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Seawolves toppled one of the WCC's best tonight as they wrapped up their week-long road trip with a 71-68 victory at Loyola Marymount on Friday.
How It Happened
- Quin Gorman opened scoring on the night with a three-pointer a minute in. Erik Pratt would follow up with the team's next 11 points to give the Seawolves a 14-6 lead through the first six minutes.
- A layup from Collin O'Connor followed by a triple and free throw from Tomas Valentiny made it 20-10, before Andrej Shoshkikj and Oleg Kojenets added another four points to make it a 14-point game with just over 10 to play. Two minutes later, another bucket from Shoshkikj and a three from Rob Brown III would extend the lead to 29-12.
- Inside of eight minutes remaining, the Lions slowly chipped away at the Seawolves lead, getting it back down in single digits at 32-23 by the five-minute mark. Five points from Brown III and Pratt's first buck since the beginning of the game would help stop LMU's run as Stony Brook closed out the half with a 41-30 lead.
- Pratt got the second half started with his second three-pointer of the day to regrow the lead to 14. The Lions, though would continue to keep poking away at the deficit, cutting it to nine at 48-39 with 16 minutes left.
- A jumper from Toby Onyekonwu accounted for all of Stony Brook's points over the next five minutes as LMU came all the way back and retook the lead at 51-50 with just under 11 to play. A three from Richard Goods at 8:29 would put an end to the scoreless streak and LMU's 13-0 run to keep it a one-point game at 54-53. With six and a half to go, Pratt would knock down another from deep to put himself over 20 points on the night and to keep it close at 59-58.
- With four minutes to go Pratt would pick up back-to-back buckets to re-tie the game at 68-68, before making another from line to make it 69-68 with under a minute left. With the Lions holding onto the ball and nine seconds on the clock, Shoshkikj would come up with the steal and get fouled. He would make both free throws to ice the game before blocking one last Lions shot to win the game.
