PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Seawolves came up just short on Saturday as they got within five with a minute to go, but in the end were narrowly edged out 84-75 by Duquesne.
How It Happened
- After quickly falling into a 6-0 hole in the first minute, Richard Goods got the Seawolves on the board with a three at 18:16. He would keep it a three-point game at the 15-minute mark when he collected a deep pass from Erik Pratt and cashed in with a dunk.Â
- Pratt would later tie the game at 10-10 with his first three at 13:28, before Toby Onyekonwu and Goods added another triple each to make it 16-15 with 12 to play.
- The Dukes, though, responded with an 11-0 run to go back up 24-16 with just over eight minutes remaining. A Duquesne technical foul and two from the line from Pratt would finally end their run, only for the Dukes to rattle off another five in a row to go up 31-18 at the six-minute mark. Jonah Butler would end that run 30 seconds later with the team's fifth three-pointer of the game. Stony Brook was unable to get the deficit back under 10 before the end of the half, heading into the locker room down 40-28.
- The Seawolves came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Dukes 14-9 through the first five minutes. Goods led the way with another eight points, including six more from behind the arc, to get Stony Brook back within seven at 49-42.Â
- Rob Brown III, who knocked down his first three-pointer during the prior run, would pick up his second of the day at 13:15 to keep it a single-digit deficit at 55-47. A minute and a half later, Oleg Kojenets would enter the game and make a hook shot to lower the lead to six points at 55-49.
- With just over 10 minutes to play, Onyekonwu scored six points in one minute to keep the lead under 10 points. Buckets from Kojenets and Brown would get the deficit back down to six with 7:30 remaining.
- At 1:22, Pratt knocked down the 10th three-pointer of the day for the Seawolves to pull the team within five at 78-73. He would add a layup with just over 30 seconds left to keep it a five-point game, but that would be as close as it would get as the Dukes just held on to win 84-75.
